Very disappointed! 1 bathroom and the staff took total control of that! Food was just ok. The head waitress was rude. We were told that they needed our seats for a reservation after we ordered. With so many places on this island not sure how this place does business?!

Good food, but could have been better. The atmosphere was a little odd, the Pub feel was compromised a little by the omnipresent tv sets. We had lunch, fish and chips, a cheeseburger and chicken fingers for our toddler. The fries were the high point. I think they were homemade, not precut or frozen. The battered cod was not the best I have had, it seemed a little overlooked, but the underlying fish fillets were tasty. The cheeseburger was good, but our server gave us no choice as to cooking temp (that may be a local health code issue though). The Guinness was the correct temperature though.

Warm atmosphere, consistently good food. Try chicken and chips or lobster roll. Good soup and beer flights too. Reasonable prices too.

Just before I headed to Hilton Head, a girlfriend placed a photo of this Lobster Pot Pie on Facebook. I knew my life wouldn't be complete until I had one for myself. We headed in for lunch and it wasn't on the menu. OH NO I thought to myself. I asked and they said it was a dinner entree, but the Chef would gladly make me one for lunch. Oh yes...life is good. It was everything I thought it would be...large chunks of lobster, creamy gravy goodness. I did everything but lick the bowl. I could live on these. yelp.com/biz_photos/-h3-… Hubby was equally with his Chicken Pot pie (that is on the menu for lunch). The only somewhat negative was mine was served with mashed potatoes, dark gravy and mixed vegetables. Would have been much nicer with a salad...and I passed those comments along. What I didn't pass along was to not serve salad dressing in those cheesy plastic containers and butter in foil packets. No one is perfect. yelp.com/biz_photos/-h3-… Think sports pub with golf theme and you got the decor. Had drinks here one evening and as well and they were reasonable. Everyone here was helpful and friendly. Oh yeah...I'll be back. Another Lobster Pot Pie awaits me...

Every time I am in British Open Pub - the food is great and the service is spot on. I have ordered everything from the chefs salad to the Lobster Pot Pie. I often meet clients for lunch here. It is an excellent place to relax for lunch or dinner or after a little shopping.
(5)Jay D.
Headed here for lunch and a beer while wife was working. Was a very nice surprise to find this gem of a place. Had a nice lunch menu, I went with the Scotch eggs, Awesome! Along with a few cold beers would visit again next time I'm in the area.

2.5 stars because it is a mixed bag my fish and chips were a d+ the first time. reuben sandwich b+ 2nd. time. the third time the $23. prime rib dinner = tough and the most fat I have ever seen in a piece of prime rib . after i paid i handed the owner the plate full of fat and told him he should be ashamed to serve this, oh, and a poor waitress to boot. the owner did offer a refund but I declined ; I just wont be back and I will share on yelp other people must get better food than I do..
(2)Tracy B.
Great English pub! Decor is focused on golf (obviously) and menu is delicious. We chose lobster salad and fish n chips. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Kids were welcomed. Server was friendly and efficient. Great place!
(5)Bob T.
Everything was excellent..food and service. The Chef's special meatloaf was the best I have had and the Ruben was Perfect. The staff were friendly and attentive with their service. We will return for Lobster night or Fish and Chips
(5)Lauren E.
Went here with my family for dinner. Fell in LOVE with the lobster pot pie. Absolutely amazing and packed full of lobtser. For 25$ it was a steal if you ask my. Id spend more for that. Yeah, it was that good. My fiance got the bangers and mash. He too loved every bit. The sweet potato fries were perfect. Needless to say, so pleased we came back the fay after for the Sunday brunch. His benedict was to die for. Best he has ever had. I had something more simple but still did not disappoint! The english muffins were an A+. The scones as well. Nice selection if freah juices too. The cranberry was nice and soft and the pineapple was smooth and sweet. I highly recommend going!
(5)Cathy S.
We eat here several times a year - usually once per visit. The food is British, so unless you're a fan, don't go. They staff is lovely, the place is cozy, and they have pretzel bread appetizer thing I would walk through fire to get, and the rest of the menu is quite nice, too. They have a great beer selection, also.
(4)Ina R.
Nice brunch bottomless mimosas one member of our party had bangers and beans, others had pancakes, & the Lewis was great. I will bring my guests here more often!
(4)Kathe B.
Excellent food and service! Arrived late on a Sunday evening and was welcomed and provided excellent service. My husband ordered traditional fish and chips and I had salmon. Both were excellent with an outstanding atmosphere.
(5)Heidi Y.
Miss Alice says the She Crab soup is wonderful. We both ordered the lunch portion of the Fish and Chips. I was disappointed. I always find the tempura type breading too overwhelming especially with two smaller size portions of fish. You don't get to taste the fish. The fries were too crispy and rather flavorless without ketchup. Such a shame.
(2)Deanna V.
Small portions, extremely greasy. The prices aren't terrible, you get what you pay for
(3)Sondra K.
I must say the lobster pot pie was to die for!! They did not skimp out in the lobster in it. It was real not the fake stuff and very large chunks of it too. Everyone at my table tried it and are planning the next trip to make sure they ordered the lobster pot pie! Now that's not to say the other items we had weren't good, lobster roll was great if your looking for sandwich style food, fish n chips were very fresh and great crisp not soggy as I sometimes find fish n chips. I must also add that the baked potato casserole was to die for. I had that as one of my side dishes along w the veg of the day. Umm the veg of the day was meech for me as it was jus canned peas n carrots. Not a fan of any canned veggies. Anything else you order food and drink wise you can't go wrong. I also was pleased to know they were open during off hours, a lot of places close during the 2-5 time frame and are only open for breakfast and dinner. I figure Well it is a pub so it should be open early till late shouldn't it? Stop by and get u sum good pub food!
(4)Danielle W.
Excellent food, drinks, service, and atmosphere! They were super accommodating considering we have 2 toddlers! The hostess brought the girls crackers to munch on while we waited for our food. We will definitely return in the future!
(5)Joan P.
Steak salad meat had long piece of gristle. Could not cut through even with steak knife. Waitress took 10% off check. Not enough to compensate for poor preparation. Companions meal of soup and sandwich was acceptable.
(2)Valerie H.
We ate here twice during our week at HHI. Fish and chips were great, as well as the fried shrimp. Super nice staff...service was great. We accidentally left our son's sippy cup the first night...came back the next night and it was there waiting. Staff remembered us from the previous night's dinner, which was nice. Next time I'm trying the lobster pot pie!
(5)peter v.
Delicious bangers and mash. The only place on the island I know where you can get such British style food. The bar is very cozy and the service is pleasant.
(4)Monique T.
Disgusting. Do not order the lobster roll. I should've known better than to order one from a pub! The worst I've had. Help yourself! don't repeat my mistake!
(1)Chad W.
Food there is amazing, and the service was on point. Joe the manager is a great guy, if you get a chance ask for him and shake is hand. Best British food I have had in a long time.
(5)Paul S.
Awesome fish and chip, excellent Brie and great French onion soup! If you love British pub food this is it. Great service and well priced and some outside seating. Well visit again
(5)Brenna H.
This review is for the Sunday brunch. I'm a little stuck between 3 and 4 stars. Giving four stars for the very friendly staff who did their best despite the understaffed afternoon. The food was very good and the bottomless Bloody Marys were excellent! The "Gourmet English Breakfast Tea", however, was only Lipton and for 2.80 a glass I expected more than that. Plus this is supposed to be a real British pub! They'd never serve that crap. All in all, it was a great meal and there was great staff. Just stay away from their supposedly gourmet tea menu.
(4)Dave M.
We had lunch here and really liked it. The burger was huge and perfectly cooked, the fish and chips were authentic, and the soup and sandwich was so good that my daughter had a second cup of the homemade chicken noodle soup. The lobster salad was just OK, because the remoulade sauce, was mayonnaise. 20 oz. pints = bonus!
(4)Bj L.
Sunday brunch has been good in the past but last Sunday was really disappointing. Lukewarm coffee is always a let down to start a meal. The excuse was lukewarm too. The second pour was no better. My main selection was over sauced. The English muffins were soggy and everything blended together like stew. We will not be returning for brunch.
(2)Dana H.
Outstanding! We had lunch at the bar with Joe . The food was great and the conversation was a hoot.
(5)Christine L.
When I'm in town my Dad and I come here on a regular basis. #1 is their french fries. LOVE them!I tend to get a turkey sandwich with melted cheese on a hoagie roll, but had lunch envy when the girl at the table next to me got the chicken pot pie. Definitely will get this next time! My mom and dad really like their lobster rolls.
(4)Maria V.
Had dinner here the Tuesday before Christmas enjoyed the food and the service was really good. Not rushed at all and Julie our server was just so sweet. Will be back again
(4)J F.
It's unapologetically Anglophilic golfer bar/restaurant. No problem there. The menu was ambitious, but missed the mark. My Martini was unsubtle and had ice floating in it. The Reuben was made with low-fat supermarket corned beef. Sheesh! The fish in the fish and chips was beautiful and perfect. I didn't understand the chips: they looked like they were extruded in a Pla-Doh machine (could be authentic, but my ignorance shows here). They lose a star for TVs (I'd take another half because there was a TV mounted in the booth, but they get it back for good service). There's more on the menu I'd like to try, but probably won't because the children went home hungry (having hated the batter on the chicken and fish and only ate the weird chips). Bonus praise for cider on draft.
(2)Sara G.
Great fish and chips and the royal chicken was even better. But the highlight was the apple pie, probably the best I've ever had.

Four of us went for dinner our last night at Hilton Head. Found this place on yelp and thought we would try it. Well, what a surprise! The food was all fabulous! Shepherds' pie, Fish and chips , Steak and Mushroom pie, and Lobster pie. I am a lobster snob and absolutely loved this dish. I highly recommend this place. We had a bread pudding to share and all loved it. The service was top notch. Tvs all had golf on. Loved it!!!

As a local we have been going to the British Open Pub over the years with hits and misses on the food but it's convenient. Last year night was a major mistake - it took us over forty minutes to get our table even with our reservation. They were putting together multiple tables for larger groups that hadn't even shown up yet while we waited for the previous diners who didn't have reservations languishing over their meals. It was embarrassing as we took out of town visitors their last night for dinner. We won't be coming back. They need to remember that it's the locals that frequent this place in the off season not the walkin tourists.

Sunday brunch outside in lovely autumn weather. Lots of locals, most bring their dogs - I'm a dog lover so this was a real treat. Friendly service, even if they were short staffed, the girl made a real effort. Bottomless mimosas were OK - full of ice, which is odd to me. Food OK, but it was a great experience because of the weather and the dogs!
(3)Trip B.
I always go here with my grandparents and my parents when my grandad needs a nip and something to pull him away from the Golf Channel. The food is very good and the pints and mixes (black and tan, black velvet, snake bite) are good as well. Like Annie, I'm a bit thrown off by the mini flat screens in each booth. All in all, it's nice to have something cozy like this when you are used to sweating each day during the South Carolina Summer.
(3)Gary G.
What a great place! Great menu, food and service! Outside dining was very pleasant!
(4)Matt M.
Average comes to mind. Decently priced drinks, though. Atmosphere is pretty bad.
(3)Cathy M.
Cute place with average food. I got the liver and onions, my husband got the fish and chips, which he said were greasy. $52 including beers, probably wouldn't return.
(2)PG B.
Nice atmosphere, but average food. You can't them though, it's British style food!!!
(3)Marv B.
Best fish and chips, better than in Scotland!
(5)Annie R.
This place is interesting, the atmosphere is trying to be a British Pub. Ok cool minus the flat screen TVs in the booths? The service was downright terrible. The redeeming quality was the food. The fish and chips were great, as was the lobster pot pie. The appetizers of mini beef wellingtons were also quite tasty. The bread pudding was amazing as well. The drinks were terrible though, I would stick with beer for sure, a member of my party ordered a lemon drop martini (not a tough beverage) and it tasted like lighter fluid.
(3)Lexy S.
This is a local favorite of mine. I usually eat here a few times a week. My bf always raves about the burger. I'm a pescetarian, so I have tried the lobster pot pie and the array of salads. My newest fav? The black and bleu with cajun shrimp or blackened salmon. Awesome! Top it all off with a snake bite (cider + lager) you get an ultimate experience!
(4)Gary A.
Great beer selection. Very friendly and comfortable. The fish and chips were good. One of our party ordered the chicken pot pie and liked it very much.
